Areas of Practice

orthopedic physical therapy

ORTHOPEDIC REHABILITATION helps with a range of injuries and problems involving the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and peripheral nerves.

In physical therapy, we strive to resolve issues with pain, limited motion, gait problems, weakness and loss of function, and to prevent their recurrence.

hand therapy

HAND THERAPY is a sub-specialty of orthopedics. The unique anatomy and functional requirements of the hand require specialized training for proper rehabilitation.

We work closely with your physician to coordinate appropriate treatment for your hand condition. In addition to hand therapy, we offer customized thermoplastic splinting performed by our Certified Hand Therapist, Gary Kassimir, PT, MS, CHT.

Pelvic health

KPT has an affiliate agreement with Julianne Neal, PT, DPT, OCS, who is a certified pelvic physical therapist, to provide specialized services in our office in Pikesville. You can call to schedule with Julie directly at 410.942.9729. Her practice is New Woman Physical Therapy and Wellness, website is newwomanpt.com. Call for an appointment today if you have any pelvic health concerns.

sports rehabilitation

SPORTS REHABILITATION addresses athletic injuries, which are orthopedic injuries that occur while participating in a sport or other athletic activity.  Our goal is to safely return the athlete to the sport as quickly as possible, while preventing re-injuries through proper warm-up and training procedures.  Our program is extremely effective in helping return patients to previous levels of sports activity through exercises for the trunk, upper and lower extremities, and back. We also use Cybex Norm testing and rehabilitation to evaluate strength deficits and promote quicker return to activities. Functional movement screens are utilized to determine possible risks for future sports injuries, and addressed for prevention as needed.

aquatic therapy

AQUATIC THERAPY uses creative activities in a warm water pool designed to complement your land-based goals. Aquatic therapy allows patients to exercise in an environment that eases stress on the joints. Our aquatic therapy program has unfortunately been put on hold during the Covid pandemic due to pool closures in our off-site aquatic therapy facility.

spinal rehabilitation

SPINAL REHABILITATION involves treating problems of the neck, upper back, and lower back. It is a sub-specialty of orthopedics and requires specialized training to ensure safe and effective treatment. Most spinal problems are mechanical, meaning they come about as a result of specific activities, postural problems, and faulty body mechanics.  During an evaluation, the therapist will identify and address these mechanical issues to promote sustainable recovery.

trigger point dry needling

TRIGGER POINT DRY NEEDLING (TDN) is a treatment for relieving the muscular tightness and spasming which commonly come with injuries, normal wear and tear, stress and overuse of the muscles.  Muscular tightness and spasm can cause compression and irritation of the nerves exiting the spine.  When the nerves are irritated, they cause a protective spasm of all the muscles to which they are connected.  This may cause related diagnoses such as carpal tunnel, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, decreased mobility and chronic pain. TDN involves inserting a needle directly into the tight muscle points that cause these problems, which then gets the muscle to relax.
